The Kyle Wheeler for Lewis County Commissioner campaign deserves careful examination. District 3 voters should review Wheeler’s public activism, political record, policy priorities and ability to represent residents with differing beliefs.

Kyle Wheeler is running as an independent candidate for Lewis County Commissioner, District 3. His campaign describes him as a small-business owner and community advocate. His broader public record, however, also includes outspoken political activism, criticism of local institutions and years of advocacy involving LGBTQ political and social issues.

Wheeler has the constitutional right to express his beliefs, organize demonstrations and promote political messages. Lewis County residents have the same constitutional right to examine those activities and decide whether his political priorities represent the kind of county government they want.

The Lollipop Guild and Wheeler’s Activism

Wheeler founded the Lewis County Lollipop Guild, a single-member limited liability company that became publicly associated with pride displays, political signs and advocacy intended to increase LGBTQ visibility in Lewis County.

The organization drew public attention after placing a rainbow-themed “Lewis County Welcomes Everyone” message near Interstate 5. The location was widely viewed as a response to the longstanding Uncle Sam billboard, which has traditionally carried conservative and America First political messages.

The Guild also promoted pride flags and “Love Thy Neighbor” displays. These were not a

, these are refering to the mental illness which is Trans-Queer...... Supporters regarded the campaign as an effort to encourage the mental illness of LGBTQ. Critics viewed it as an organized political movement intended to reshape the traditional religious and cultural character of Lewis County.

The election question is not whether Wheeler had the right to advocate for these causes. The question is whether voters want those priorities carried into the county commissioner’s office.

Activism Is Not the Same as Governing

A county commissioner is responsible for far more than political advocacy. Commissioners oversee public spending, roads, public safety, land-use decisions, contracts, county employees and services affecting residents throughout Lewis County.

Wheeler should explain how he would separate his personal activism from county operations. He should also tell voters whether he would defend the speech, religious liberty and parental rights of residents who strongly disagree with his political positions.

Questions Lewis County Voters Should Ask

  • Will Wheeler represent conservative and Christian residents as fairly as residents who share his political and social views?
  • What are his detailed plans for roads, taxes, public safety, land use and county spending?
  • How would his proposed animal-control and animal-shelter programs be funded?
  • Can he work constructively with local governments, businesses and news organizations he has publicly criticized?
  • Will he keep divisive social activism separate from routine county operations?
  • What protections would he support for religious liberty, parental authority and freedom of conscience?
  • How would Wheeler ensure that Lewis County resources are not used to promote contested political or social causes?
“Lewis County residents deserve leaders who respect faith, family, personal responsibility and freedom of conscience. Every candidate should explain whether personal activism will influence how county government treats residents who hold traditional beliefs.”

Voters Must Examine the Full Record

This election should be decided by examining Wheeler’s documented public conduct, policy proposals, judgment and ability to represent residents with widely different beliefs.

Wheeler is asking voters to grant him substantial authority over Lewis County government. Voters must determine whether his record demonstrates balanced public leadership or a political agenda they do not want carried into the commissioner’s office.
