There is a Ghost Town of Winlock Oregon is named after Winlock W. Steiwer, who’s decedents still live in the area. His nephew was a United States Senator, while he served in the Oregon Senate. Winlock got a post office in 1888 due to his influence and was named after him. Unfortunately, he became part the Oregon land fraud scandal and was indicted in 1905.

THE FOUNDING OF THE TOWN
C.C. Pagget and Jack Nealy were the first two settlers in Winlock.

THE NAMING OF THE TOWN
"Whereas, on the 17th day of November 1873, General W. W. Miller of Olympia, Washington Territory, having been asked to give a name to the place, then known as Grand Prairie, did on the day written submit the following name, "WINLOCK," in the words following, to wit, "If however you should fancy the name, and adopt it, I will agree to give a nice bell to the church or schoolhouse, that is built in the town" (C. C. Wall, 6).

The town was incorporated in 1883

The egg industry died off many years ago and this small town still celebrates its demise...

A Winlock Port District Creation Question was on the November 8, 2011
This measure was defeated

The whole idea was to support those around us in the new town where we bought our home.....
Boy were we wrong the people did not want anything but a dead egg and no future...
